KOCTC/FTAK 20th Spring Invitational Team Tennis Tournament - Top Spinners Prevails Over Al Yasra Food Team Steelers and KWTSteel/Diplomat Team Pummeled Their Opponents

 

Friday, February 3, 2012. It was a little bit dusty day but it did not stop the tournament’s participants and friends to witness another day of exciting games on the ongoing Spring team tennis tournament.

 

Court # 1: Top Spinners Team vs Al Yasra Food Team:

Top Spinners team felt a little shock when Al Yasra Food team surprised them with a three in a row sets win. Al Yasra Food team took decisively the Ladies L/L-1 match that was played earlier. The tandem of Mommy Linda and daughter Jo Moreno gave no chance for Top Spinner pair of Ghie de Ferio and Weng Arevalo to gain any point. On the normal schedule matches, the first match, C/C-1 was taken by Al Yasra team when Joseph Recreo & Hezer Marquez edged Top Spinners pair of Sung Ho Lee and Jhegs Bernabe. Top Spinners B/C-1 category pair of Sung Ho Lee and Moh’d Saad had scored one set win for the team when they defeated strongly Francis Santiago and Joseph. Another upset for Top Spinners pair of Rox and Hyoung Sun Paek when Ronnie Rapatan and Robert Malaca of Al Yasra pinned them down in the A/AL-1 match. At this point, Al Yasra was ahead with 3 sets team score while Top Spinners has 1 set win.

Top Spinners tried to gain composure as their B/B-1 pair of Regie Lanuza and Byong Woo Chun did not give any point to Al Yasra’s Noel Candolesas and Eric Gumabao. Another set win by Top Spinners when Hyoung Sun Paek and Byong Woo Chun snatched the winner from Cris Belanyo and Robert Malaca in the tie-breaker of the AL/BH-1 category. Another set win for Top Spinners contributed by Sammy Miclat paired with Regie Lanuza defeating hardly the pair of Rene Datuin & Cris in the AL/BH-2 match. Al Yasra Food team stood up and took the A/AL-2 match when Ronnie and Rene held their breath and outlasted Top Spinners pair of Sammy & Rox. At 4 sets wins even, Top Spinners did not allow Al Yasra team to snatch a win. Top Spinners B/C-2 players Danny Bumanlag and Sonny Roble controlled the match by limiting the scoring of Eric Gumabao & Noel Sabillo. Julius Magusara & August Lomboy played more accurately than Al Yasra’s Noel Candolesas & Francis in their B/B-2 match. Top Spinners Danny & Mohd Saad wasted no time in winning the C/C-2 by not allowing Hezer Marquez & Noel Sarabillo any point. Top Spinners ladies pair of Mylene Moreno & Ghie de Ferio edged the fighting pair of Jo Moreno & Tess Adviento. Final Score, Top Spinners team has 8 sets while Al Yasra Team has 4 sets win.

 

Court # 3: Steelers Team vs Suzuki Marine Team:

The Steelers were just so heavy that they sank the Suzuki Marine in their Friday’s encounter as the later managed only to get 2 sets win against 9 sets win of the Steelers.

The first match, C/C-1 category was a tight match but Steelers Bryan Basinang & Ednor Luces edged Suzuki’s Mashari Al Shamou & Norman Llano in the tie-breaker. Then, Steelers pair of Oloy Payales & Jun Orozco survived the B/B-1 match against the fighting Suzuki Marine pair of Tony Dezeda & Hassan Al Yousufi. Suzuki’s team manager Tony had his revenge when paired with Fahad Al Jassar by defeating Steelers pair of Subra Dutta & Ednor in the B/C-1 match.

The Steelers showed their might in the following matches. In the AL/BH-1 category, William Naoe & Andres Uribe outplayed the tandem of Alem Zubair & Franklin Mariano. Steelers Ashraf Al-Rashdi & William likewise dominated the pair of Russel Centino & Alem in their A/AL-1 match. Ali Al Qasem and Andres was just the stronger pair than Suzuki’s Mar del Rosario & Romar Macagaling, winning the set by a large point’s margin in the AL/BH-2 category game. Another strong winner by the Steelers when Arced Condes & Albert Razo pinned Mar & Roger Sunico in their B/C-2 match. Also, the pair of Ashraf & Ali was more consistent and stronger against Bernie dela Cruz & Russel, controlling their A/AL-2 match. One last hurrah by the Suzuki’s when Adonis Bersales & Romar took the game from Albert & Dodong Bag-o in the tie-breaker of their B/B-2 match.  The Steelers concluded their encounter by the outstanding games of their players for the two remaining matches. Ladies Cynthia Montalvo & Aseel Al Khandari dominated the veterans Becky Kabir & Paula Russel by giving them a single point only. Arced & Jong Rimando followed suit by a complete game dominance over the pair of Benny Adviento & Duncan Russel in the C/C-2 category match. Their final score, Steelers has 9 sets wins while the Suzuki Marine has 2 sets win.

 

Court # 4: KOC Team vs KWTSTEEL/Diplomat Team:

The Diplomats entered the court ready to redeem their second day heavy loss in the on-going elimination round. This time, they played strongly by successive set winners against the KOC team.

First game, Diplomats Greg Belista & Ernel Cariño had little resistance against KOC’s Nawaf & brother Abdul Rahman Al-Qattan in their C/C-1 match. Again, Diplomats showed strength when their B/B-1 pair of Lope Gallana & Augusto Santos held and limited the scoring of Ferdie Marasigan & Fahad Al-Qattan. In the B/C-1 category, KOC pair of Atul Kumar & Winston Laboriante made a fight but not enough to overcome Diplomats pair of Nathaniel Delmo & Greg Belista. KOC team had their first set win complements of Marlon Miguel & Rajiv Rajkhowa when they had their best in their AL/BH-1 match against Hassan Mohammed & Augusto.

 

The Diplomats then unleashed their might in the succeeding matches. Hassan Al Arabi & Andrew Schofield were much more efficient against KOC pair of Ephraim Garcia & Marlon, taking the win in the A/AL-1 match. The AL/BH-2 category match was tightly played but Diplomats duo of Andrew & Roy Laguda had the set win in the tie-breaker against Warly Faner & Rajiv. Ato Mondejar & Eric Alfafara had more winning points against KOC’s Dewan Kabir & Edwin Basuel in their B/C-2 match. In the A/AL-2 category match, Diplomats pair of Hassan Al Arabi & Hassan Mohammed was seen having good plays than Ephraim & Warly, taking the set with wide margin of points. Diplomats team captain Warlito Congayo Jr. paired with Ato edged KOC’s Dante Cosio Ferdie Cabrido in their B/B-2 category match. Diplomats ladies pair of Leah Greiglow & Susie Schofield outplayed the tested KOC ladies pair of Cristy Miguel & Gina Marasigan. KOC team 2nd team set winner was contributed by Mohammed Al-Mutaire & Joel Jimenez Sr. by pinning Diplomats pair of Eric Alfafara & Ruel Tawag. Final score, 9 sets win for KWTSTEEL/Diplomat and 2 sets win for KOC team.
